Harry Potter

Hey friends in tumblrland, today I’m going to type about what, in my opinion, is the best series of our time.  Harry Potter.  I’m a bit biased since I got my first book the year it came out in the states, and literally grew up with Harry and his friends.  I have been thinking about J.K. Rowling’s masterpiece today, since it is both her birthday and Harry’s.

I was thinking about how these books, above all others, are one of my main sources of morality.  The other being my amazing parents.  Through the series every virtue and vice is reflected in some way or another, and lessons are learned about friendship and the best way to live.  Things that are so important to know, for instance that just because someone has authority and makes rules, that doesn’t make them right.

There are characters everyone want to emulate, characters everyone wants to avoid being, and characters that we identify with.  I think these books tap into the life pulse of humanity, and show us all the good and bad we have within us.  Most of all the books show that one thing trumps all others-Love.  However that sounds, I think it’s true, I really do.  I am a skeptic and a cynic, but I do still have faith in that.  I think Love makes life worth living and gives us something to fight for. I don’t know why we’re here, but I do know what we’re supposed to do. I think part of that is because J.K Rowling showed me the inherent moral goodness of humanity, and what happens when we reject it.
